II

House. Circa late C16/early C17 with a slightly later rear wing. Framed construction on a sandstone rubble base, the front elevation and rear wing weatherboarded, the right return tile-hung; peg-tile roof; brick stacks.

Plan: West facing. The main block is a 3 room lobby entrance plan house, the 2 left hand rooms heated from back-to-back fireplaces in an axial stack, the inner (south) room unheated. The main block has an outshut containing a straight stair, probably C18. Rear left (north east) wing at right angles with an end stack is probably an C18 kitchen addition. The partition between the 2 south rooms in the main block has been removed. The present entrance is on the north return, into the wing.

Exterior: 2 storeys. Main block roof gabled at the left end, half-hipped at the right end; axial stack with a staggered shaft. Asymmetrical 4-window front with 2- and 3-light C20 casements with diamond leaded panes. Similar fenestration to the wing. The rear elevation has a catslide roof over the outshut and a gabled dormer. Gabled, weatherboarded C20 porch on the left return.

Interior: Well-preserved. Exposed carpentry to the ground floor rooms including chamfered crossbeams. The hall fireplace has a moulded timber lintel. Wall-framing complete with flared jowls to the wall posts.

Roof: Tie-beam, clasped purlin and queen strut design, re-roofed in the C20 over the north end room of the main range. Roof of wing not seen at time of survey.
