Gatehouse. Late C16. Banded lias and Ham stone, thatched roof, wood coving to eaves. Square on plan. Central throughway with semi-circular head openings to each end in stone surrounds, moulded, dropped keystones, moulded imposts, labels, some early and interesting graffiti to the outer jambs; above each opening a four-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned window, outer lights blocked with rubble, labels, further similar and two and three-light windows on the returns; east elevation with two shell-headed niches at the ground floor level. Inside the throughway with its lias setts, inner doorway with elaborately moulded stone jambs and a moulded wooden lintel, staple of a hinge remains on a jamb. Stone staircase rising to first floor to north, entered through a doorway with a massive chamfered wood architrave with a four-centred arch head, plank door with original strap hinges. Similar doorway to the south in a timber-framed partition with cob nogging, plank door, strap hinges. Remains of a timber-framed partition to first floor. Collar-beam roof, cambered collar, later timber supports inserted.
