Details

LOWER ROAD TQ 75 SW EAST FARLEIGH (South Side) 2/55 St. Helens 6.3.74 II House. Late C16 or early C17, with early C18 addition, mid-to-late C18 front range, rear and C19 additions. Front range: channelled render. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys, attic and cellar on brick plinth. Central bay breaks forward very slightly, with moulded imposts flanking first- floor windows and raised bases above plinth suggesting Doric pilasters. Shallow moulded stuccoed plat band between ground and first-floor windows, interrupted by central bay, and above first-floor windows, carried across central bay. Plain stone-coped parapet with raised panel to central bay. Hipped roof. Rear stacks to left and right. 3 hipped and corniced dormers. Regular 5-window front of recessed 12-pane sashes. Raised panel over central ground-floor window. Later bow window with blind box to left gable end. No doorway. Late C16 or early C17 timber-framed rear wing to right with doorway in long right side. Short early C18 single-storey galleted stone addition to right side of wing, in angle with main range, with thick glazing bars to rear sash window, and with gable end stack to right. Rear range to left of circa 1890. Interior: only partly inspected. Ovolo-moulded beams and hollow-chamfered joists to rear ground-floor room. Stairs beside right stack. Early C18 niche behind later C18 panelling to short right addtion. 2 panelled and corniced rooms to front range, each with fireplace.
