Pair of single-cell houses, c.1730. Hammer-dressed stone, stone slate roof. 3 storeys. Classical front has rusticated quoins, band to each floor. Ground floor doorways approached up steps with simple cast iron rod railings. 2 doorways (that to right blocked to form window) each have shouldered architrave and triangular pediment with cornice continuing to either side over single narrow lights with plain stone surrounds and projecting sill. 1st floor has 3 windows with plain stone surrounds formerly sashed but now with altered glazing. 2nd floor has 5-light flat faced mullioned window the 2nd and 4th light being narrower and taller formerly to accommodate a sash. Modillion cornice. Coped gables with dressed stacks. Left hand return wall attached to No. 39 (q.v.) but gable rises higher. Rear has 2 bays of sashed windows to each floor with plain stone surrounds progressively reduced in height. Flush quoins. Right hand return wall has doorway with shouldered architrave (blocked) to left of mid C20 inserted doorway. Single sash window to 1st and 2nd floor. All have altered glazing.
