Details

SOHO SQUARE TQ 2981 SE CENTRAL TIMBER- FRAMED ARBOUR/TOOL SHED 1900/58/10001 GV II Garden arbour/tool shed forming the centre piece of Soho Square c1925- 6, built by Messrs J. Strutt & Co, 27 Endell Street for the Charing Cross Electricity Company as a disguise for an electricity sub- station. Brick and breezeblock core with timber-framing of re-use C17/18 floor beams having rendered infill panels; an old (pre C17?) 4-centred head to south door. Clay peg tiled conical roof with upswept projecting eaves on shaped brackets & gabled dormers to north & south elevations having shaped bargeboards. Tudorbethan style, built to appear as an octagonal market cross building. 2 storeys, 8 windows. Overhanging 1st floor supported on round arched arcading with carved spandrels. North & south elevations have double panelled doors with 4-centred heads. 1st floor windows of 3 lights and gables 4 lights, all with carved timber trefoil heads.
