Details
NORTH HILL ILLAND SX 27 NE 4/134 House at Illand Nursery II Three houses and outbuilding now converted into one house. Probably C17 origins with a pair of early C19 cottages and a C19 outbuilding incorporated as one house in later C20. Stone rubble. Slate roof with hipped and gable ends. Stone rubble axial stack. Plan: To left a small 2-room plan circa C17 cottage, heated by an end stack and a rear-lateral stack. Near the centre a pair of double depth 2-room plan cottages heated by a central axial stack. Attached on the right an outbuilding of overall rectangular plan. The left hand cottage has been converted into a garage with bedroom above and has been joined to the C19 cottages by means of a small extension. C20 outshut added across rear of house. Exterior: Asymmetrical 2-storey elevation. To left C20 garage doors in left hand cottage. The C19 cottages have an almost symmetrical 2-window front with C20 glazed door to left and 2-light casement in door openings to right, the door openings flanking two C19 2-light casements with two similar windows above. To right, the barn had a wide opening rear centre with granite jambs. This opening has been infilled with a C20 door with C19 2-light casement to left and C20 2-light casement and 1-light window to right. Four 2-light casements on first floor. In the rear elevation of the left hand cottage 2 small early 2-light windows, one reset, both of single pieces of Polyphant stone. Interior: not inspected.
