NORTH HILL SX 27 NE 4/158 Methodist Church GV II

Methodist church and attached schoolroom. 1810 (datestone). Stone rubble with moulded plinth and granite dressings. Slate roof with hipped ends. Plan: Methodist chapel has an overall rectangular plan with entrance in liturgical west end which faces the road. Attached on right (liturgical south) and set slightly forward is probably the original stables with probable school room above. Exterior: Single storey chapel on left with a symmetrical 2 window front. Central ashlar stone porch with hipped end and round headed dressed stone arch to window on front. Plank doors in left and right hand sides of porch. The chapel has two dressed stone round headed window openings, datestone centrally placed. 'Methodist Chapel 1810'. The slate-hung left hand side (liturgical north) elevation has three similar round headed windows. Set slightly forward to right a two storey range with wide opening on ground floor with C20 door and window inserted. Round headed window above with dressed stone arch and key block. Entrance in left hand side providing access to first floor. Interior: not accessible. An interior inspection should be made to record the fixtures and fittings.
