Details
NORTH HILL TREBARTHA SX 27 NE 4/163 Trebartha Barton and service range to east II* Farmhouse and service range to rear. Probably late C18 or early C19. Stone rubble with granite dressings. Slate hung with rag slates on the exposed elevations. Rag slate roofs; the central range has gable ends and the lower flanking wings have slate lean-to roofs. Gabled axial stacks flanking the central range, partly slate hung with ashlar granite shafts. Brick end stack inserted. Plan: Facing south an unusual arrangement with a tall 3-storey central range of 2- room plan, one room behind the other, flanked by lower 2-storey lean-to ranges, each of 2-room plan with an axial passage between the 2 rooms. The main doorway on the left hand side and the 'back' door is on the right hand side leading to a service yard on this side. The rooms are heated by back-to-back fireplaces in two axial stacks to the right and left of the main central range. Exterior: the tall central range is of three storeys with gable ends; to the south front and rear these gable ends have impressive symmetrical elevations with dressed granite voussoirs; central C18 tripartite sashes on ground and first floor and Diocletian window on second. The lower lean-to 2-storey ranges flanking the wings have symmetrical 3-window east and west elevations; the west slate hung garden front has a C20 gabled porch with C19 inner door, flanked by two C19 2-light casements with three similar casements on first floor. The service east front has dressed granite voussoirs to the openings; similar 2-light casements flanking C19 porch with hipped roof and gauze covering dairy window on left. The service buildings which return to right pn 2 sides of a yard are of single storey with slate roofs and C19 casements. Interior: Simple C19 carpentry details with simple C19 stair. The doors have chamfered and stopped stiles and rails of circa 1840s style. First floor not inspected. Latham, B Trebartha, The House by the Stream, 1971
