4/184 Mill Cottage and Lower Mill Cottage
GV II
Pair of cottages. Probably C18 extended in the mid and late C20. Stone rubble with
granite quoins. Steeply pitched slate roof with hipped ends and gable end to front.
Central stone rubble axial stack with dressed strings.
Plan: Originally of overall 'T' shaped plan; pair of one-room plan cottages with
entrances probably originally in the left and right hand sides, entering directly
into the main rooms which share the central axial stack. The projection in the
centre on front contains the two staircases. The cottages were extended to rear in
the mid and late C20.
Exterior: Two storeys. Almost symmetrical 3 window front with central gabled full
height stair projection on front. The 2 staircases share a central C19 3-light
casement with dressed stone flat arch and a blind quatrefoil in the gable end. Lower
Mill Cottage to left has a late C19 or C20 2-light casement on ground floor and
probably C19 2-light casement on first. Mill Cottage to right has probably C19 2-
light casements on ground and first floor. C20 extension to rear.
Interior of Mill Cottage has a heavy central chamfered cross beam with slightly
chamfered floor joists. Interior of Lower Mill Cottage not inspected.
