MORCHARD BISHOP SS 70 NE 5/109 - Higher Venn - II
House, former farmhouse. Mid C17, modernised circa 1970. Plastered cob on rubble footings; stone stacks with C20 brick tops; slate roof (formerly thatch). 3-room house facing south (away from road). Central and left (west) room form a lobby entrance house with back-to-back fireplaces under an axial stack; the right room with projecting end stack may be an addition and is separated from rest by thick cob crosswall. 2 storeys. 4 window front of circa 1970 16-pane sashes. Circa 1970 slate-roofed conservatory at right end and circa 1970 panelled door left of centre and immediately left of broad pilaster. Roof is hipped both ends. Interior: preserves most mid C17 features. Left end room has 2 elm crossbeams, the centre room has one. All are chamfered with scroll stops as too are the oak lintels of both back-to-back fireplaces. Left fireplace includes large stone side oven. Roof is inaccessible. Circa 1970 extensions to rear.
