MORCHARD BISHOP CHURCH STREET (north side) SS 7607 - 7707 Morchard Bishop 11/143 Glebe House - 26.8.65 - II
House. Mid C19. Plastered cob and rubble; brick stacks and chimney shafts; thatched roof. 2-room plan main block facing south with crosswings projecting forward each forming overall U-plan. Front part of main block contains entrance hall and stairs. Axial stacks each end of main block and lateral stacks on outer sides of each wing. 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3-window front, 1 to each crosswing and 1 to main front, all C19 and C20 replacement casements with glazing bars. 6-panel door to left of main block and red-tiled monopitch roofed porch. At right end in corner with right crosswing is original cast iron rainwater head and drain pipe. Main roof is higher than the wings and is half-hipped each end onto ridge of crosswings. Crosswings are gable ended to front and rear. Tall chimney shafts each side. On outer side of each crosswing the brick work of the flues is exposed as they arch together over small round-headed window with Gothick glazing bars. Diamond panes have been releaded in right (east) end. Rear elevation to garden has regular 4-window front with 2-window main block broken forward from crosswings. Windows are variety of late C19 and C20 casements and includes 12-pane sash. Windows are larger than on front. Interior includes much original joinery and plasterwork. Mid C19 roof structure with king post trusses to main block. An unusually large house to be built in cottage ornee style.
