Details
FORD - SO 55 SW 1422-/5/10000 Grove Cottage II
Estate cottage. Circa early C19, probably by G S Repton for Richard Arkwright of Hampton Court (qv). Red sandstone rubble with roughcast south front and east and west sides. Plain tile roof with gabled ends and with hipped outshut at rear, probably originally thatched. Large roughcast stack in east gable end. PLAN: L-shaped on plan. 1-room plan main range with stack on right (E) gable end, direct entry at centre of S front and chamber above; short service wing to rear left and outshut in angle; another outshut on right end was probably originally an open-sided store. EXTERIOR: 1 storey and attic. 1-bay S front with central doorway with panelled and glazed door, C20 gabled dormer above just over eaves with casement window. Outshut on right has corrugated asbestos sheet lean-to roof and C20 casement. West side is gabled on right with large canted bay window with leaded panes, small metal casement at centre and hipped tiled roof; small 2-light casement above with leaded panes, hoodmould and small cill brackets; similar but single light ground floor window in wing on left. At rear (N) gable- ended wing on right with plank door with cover moulds and main roof carried down on right over integral outshut.
