MORCHARD BISHOP THE GREEN, Morchard Bishop SS 7607 - 7707 11/170 - Meadowbank - II
House. Mid C17 with C19 addition. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stacks with C20 brick chinmey shafts; thatch roof. 3-room plan house facing south. The left (western) room is a C18 addition with rear lateral stack. Middle room has front projecting lateral stack and right (eastern) room has rear corner stack. Outshots to rear. 2 storeys. Irregular 3-window front made up of mostly C19 casements with glazing bars and some old glass. Right end ground floor casement has an internal iron security bar with twisted stem to central casement. C20 doors left of centre and at right end. C20 casement without glazing bars to right of stack is blocking C17 doorway. Roof half-hipped both ends. Right (east) end includes a probably late C18 - early C19 2-light casement to stairs. Rear outshots include some late C19 - early C20 windows with leaded glass. Interior: cob crosswalls between rooms. Right (eastern) room has late C17 - early C18 chamfered and runout stopped beam. A chamfered and scroll-stopped half-beam is probably mid-C17 stop survive. Half-beam against right room crosswall is chamfered with scroll stops adn crosswall includes C17 cupboard near front. Roof over these 2-rooms made up of A-frame trusses with pegged dovetail lap-jointed collars. Left (western) roof includes late C18 A-frame truss of roughly finished timbers with plain pegged lap-jointed collar and X-apex. Ground floor this end has no exposed beam, the fireplace is blocked and is lined with C19 plank wainscotting. This room was once the parlour of an inn according to the present occupants.
