2 small houses, formerly 3 cottages. Probably late C18 - early C19 and C19
extension. Plastered cob on rubble footings; rubble stacks with plastered brick
chimney shafts; corrugated asbestos roof (formerly thatch). Now two 2 room plan
cottages facing south with the left hand cottage (No. 2) adjoining No. 3 Whites
Cottages (q.v.) under a continuous roof. Both cottages have axial stacks. They
were originally built as three 1-room cottages with C19 extension on right (east)
end. 2-storeys. Overall irregular 4-window front. No. 2, to right has late C19 -
early C20 casements and door left of centre with C20 gabled and slate-roofed porch.
No. 1 has circa 1980 casements with half dormers under gabled roofs to first floor
and door right of centre with C20 gabled and slate-roofed porch. Roof hipped to
right.
Interiors: both cottages have plain carpentry detail. No 2 has most early features
hidden by C19 plaster but chamfered and runout stopped beam in larger ground floor
room. Fireplace is blocked. Roof is simply sets of purlins between cob crosswalls.
No. 1 has a plain chamfered elm crossbeam to larger left (western room) which also
includes large stone rubble fireplace with chamfered oak lintel and 2 ovens. Roof
not inspected.
