AVERY LANE TQ 75 SE OTHAM (North Side) 3/215 Bishops 25.7.52 II

House. C15 or early C16, with C19 additions. Timber framed with plaster infilling. Plain tile roof. Wealden, of 2 unequal-length hall bays and storeyed end bays. 2 storeys and attic. Broadly-spaced studding. Ogee tension braces to right and left end bays. Right and left end bays jettied, jetties returning on plain dragon-posts. Inserted hall floor formerly jettied; jetty removed from left hall bay in early C20 and underbuilt to right. Arch-braced flying wall-plate. Steeply-pitched hipped roof with gablets. Multiple brick ridge stack in front slope of roof, to left hall bay. Rear stack to left and projecting brick stack to right gable end. 2 gabled dormers. Irregular fenestration of 3 leaded windows; one canted 6-light mullioned and transomed oriel window on central carved and shaped bracket to left end bay, one to right hall bay, and one 4-light casement to right end bay. One 3-light diamond mullion ground-floor window to left end bay. Boarded door in hollow-chamfered 4-centred arched architrave to left end of hall. Timber-framed rear return wing to left. Late C19 timber-framed rear wing to centre, with 2 gables to its long right side. Interior not inspected, but said to contain brattished crown post.
