Details

POUGHILL SS 80 NE 7/197 - Marsh Farmhouse - II

Farmhouse. Circa 1840. Plastered rubble; rubble stacks with C19 brick chimney shafts; asbestos slate roof. 4-room plan house facing south. Each pair of rooms either side of central staircase is heated by an axial stack. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 5-window frontage of C19 16-pane sashes and one C20 replacement without glazing bars. Stucco pilasters divide the front 1:3:1. Central panelled and glazed door has overlight with glazing bars and fluted doorcase which includes small plain brackets and a vestigial hood. Secondary doors each end, that to right (east) sheltered by slate-roof porch. Plain timber eaves cornice and low pitch roof is hipped each end. Rear elevation has plainer 5-window front including a central arch-headed stair window with Gothick glazing bars and including some C19 leaded, stained glass. Most other windows are C19 3-light casements with glazing bars and relatively small rectangular panes, much original crown glass. Central 4- panel door with flat hood on shaped brackets. Interior not inspected.
