The entrance is round the corner on St John's Street No 1 qv, though the major part faces the Market Place and is described accordingly.
C18 altered. Three storeys. Modern stone front to ground floor of six pairs of engaged Doric columns with plain frieze and modillion cornice placed in front of rusticated stone walls, the latter in three bays to right possibly original. The upper storeys of red brick, with moulded and bracketed stone cornice. Brick parapet with stone coping. Hipped tiled roof. Five windows to upper floors, recessed, sash, glazing bars intact, the third window from right on first floor tripartite, all with keystones. Five windows to ground floor and modern corner door on angle. The return front to St John's Street qv repeats the general design with three windows.
All the listed buildings on the south-west side, south-east side, Market Hall, Market Cross and Fountain form a group.
St John's Street Nos 1 to 5 (consec) form a group.
