Details
BRAMFORD THE STREET TM 1246 9/91 Nos. 74, 76 and 78 and - that part of No 1 Raven's s Lane which is structurally - part of No 78) II 3 houses and part of a fourth; built as one 3-cell house in early or mid C16. 2 storeys. Timber-framed, the front wall of Nos. 76 and 78 was rebuilt C18 in red brick (now painted) with a band at 1st floor. The whole building was originally jettied along the street frontage; No.74 retains the upper storey walling with exposed studwork and crenellated bressumer, but the jetty was here underbuilt in C19 in red brick work (now plastered). No.74 has a plaintiled roof, Nos. 76 and 78 have concrete tiles. Various C20 casements and entrance doors. In No.78 the original parlour has fine multiple-roll moulded main beams and joists. In No.76 the original hall has a blocked doorway with arched head which communicates with the service end (now No.74). An upper floor room of No.1, Raven's Lane is above and structurally part of No.78, The Street, and is therefore included in this item. Various rear extensions were added in C19.
