Details
FLOWTON ELMSETT ROAD TM 04 NE 6/114 Valley Farmhouse - - II Farmhouse. Late C16 and C17 with rear extension of C1800. 2 storeys and 1 storey with attics. Timber-framed and plastered; the C16 section is jet tied along the front wall at 1st floor level, on 6 slender chamfered brackets. Plaintiled roof with axial C17 chimney of red brick. Various mid C19 small- pane sashes and casements, and one of C20. C19 boarded entrance door with oblong fanlight. The C16 block is of 2 cells, each cell in 2 bays; the upper storey had originally a single room of 4 bays. Good unmoulded framing and close studwork. This block was probably added to a mediaeval house on its right which was demolished and rebuilt in C17 on the same site; the latter has many reused components of probably C15 origin.
