Details

INGLETON HIGH STREET SD 6873-6973 (west side) 14/8 Police Station 20.2.58 - II Formerly house, converted to Police Station, probably in late C19. Mid-Cl9 with C20 alterations. Snecked limestone, millstone grit dressings, stone slate roof. Central staircase plan. 2 storeys, 3 bays. Central entrance in chamfered surround, massive pediment on consoles, 6 panel door; rectangular fanlight. 2 ground floor and 3 upper floor windows have plain surrounds, sashes(without glazing bars to ground floor). Thick sill band to upper floor. Projecting quoins, eaves modillions, gable end ridge stacks. Interior: dog-leg staircase with open string, stick balusters and wreathed handrail to first flight, turned balusters to remaining flights. Panelled benches and witness stand to magistrate's court on first floor, probably c1900.
