COLEBROOK COLEFORD SS 70 SE 3/114 Cove Cottage

GV II

House. Probably late C18 - early C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings; stone rubble stack topped with C19 brick; slate roof. 2-roan plan cottage facing west with entrance hall and stairs at left (north) end and stack in right (south) end party wall. Cove Cottage is set between Corner Corrage (q.v.) and Coleford Gospel Hall (q.v.). 2 storeys. Balanced but not symmetrical 2-window front including 2 first floor 16-pane sashes (that to right a horned replacement) with a single ground floor 12-pane sash between. At left end a C19 plank door with small window and late C19 railings and gate in front which has alternate spear and fleur-de-lys finials. Rear elevation has 1 C19 20-pane sash, the rest are C20 casements. Low pitch roof is continuous with adjoining Gospel Hall. Interior has little exposed carpentry. Large stone rubble fireplace (now lined with brickette tile) has soffit-chamfered oak lintel. Roof not inspected. Included for group value. Coleford is a remarkably unspoilt and picturesque hamlet.
