Details
ASTON BY SUTTON C.P. ASTON LANE SJ 57 NE South West Side 3/46 Aston Lodge. GV II House. 1824. English garden wall bond brown brick; hipped slate roof around lead flat. 2 storeys, 5 windows; square in plan. Symmetrical front. Plinth and plain band at upper storey cill level of painted stone. Fascia and cornice at eaves on all sides; raised at centre of front with quadrant ends. Dated lead rainwater heads. 4 symmetrically placed partly slate-clad brick chimneys. Glazed cast iron porch shortened, formerly full lenght of front with bell-cast ends. 8-panel door between Roman Doric pilasters; looped radial-bar fanlight. 12-pane recessed sashes to front. Wedge lintels, stone cills. Round-arched tall stair window in left end; other windows in ends and rear mostly 16-pane. Interior. Large cellar at front. Central passages front to back and side to side with basket-arched crossing. Front room right has contemporary carved stone fireplace, floral plaster frieze in light relief, cornice. Front room left has frieze in heavier relief and cornice. 2-flight stair of oak at left end of cross-passage has shaped brackets, stick balusters and wreathed handrail. Front left bedroom has good stone fireplace with shaped fire opening carved with oak-leaf and acorn pattern.
