Former school, now fitness centre, c.1865-70 as part of the Augustinian Fathers' Mission centre
in Hoxton. Stock brick with red brick bands and some stone dressings; flat roof set behind
railings originally serving as playground. Square plan with three storeys, one each for boys (who
have their own entrance), girls and infants. Central composition divided in half by projecting
buttress ending in black brick cross and surmounted by a narrow gable hoisted between the
piers of the rooftop railings. Each half a symmetrical composition with central, tall two-light
casement windows flanked by single, tall casements, all with round heads; those to lower floors
with gauged brickwork over, those to second floor with rendered tympanums over the larger
windows. Projecting cast-iron downpipes with hopper heads at ends of composition balance the
central buttress. Entrance doors under porches supported on heavy timber consoles.
