Details
NORMANTON SYNDALE ROAD SE 32 SE (West side, off) 2/57 Store approx. 2 metres - south of rear wing of Hanson House Farmhouse. GV II
Granary or barn, now store. C16 or earlier; altered. Coursed squared sandstone, stone slate roof, with some internal timber framing. Rectangular 3-unit plan on north-south axis. Two storeys; west side has a 4-centred arched wagon doorway to the 3rd bay, with chamfered surround (and modern external sliding door), former granary doorway above to the left (altered as window), at left end a doorway with massive lintel, and an inserted window above. Chimney on slope of roof near left end; stone gable copings with kneelers. (East side concealed by modern additions). Interior: 2 king-post roof trusses with cambered tie beams and longitudinal bracing to the ridge, that nearer the south end closed with close-studding and the other infilled with brick; north gable wall designed as dovecote, with tiered nest-holes and ledges.
