Details

SS 90 NW BICKLEIGH BICKLEIGH 5/24 Headstone about 12 metres south of - the west end of the aisle of the Church of St Mary GV II Headstone. Late C18. Slate with a later lead capping to preserve the inscription. Shouldered with a rounded head. Parts of the inscription are indistinct but the text is notable, relating the presumably accidental death of "Edward Gibb (s?) of this Parish, who was killed by the stab of a knife at Little-B (probably Little Burn) in this Parish by the Hand of Rob. Hulsey as he was assisting him in Butchering of a swine-hog of which wound in his right thigh through the immense loss of blood, he expired within 15 minutes on Monday 21st Day of Decemeber 1794 - aged 52 years".
