House, in use as school since 1910. Dated 1884. Rock-faced sandstone to ground floor, mock timberwork above, with balustraded posts and cusped quatrefoils. Plain tiled roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, 4-window range, including service block to left. Gabled entrance porch in centre, at left of main block, with heavy timberwork and stained-glass windows illustrating the poem, "Gather ye Rosebuds". Right-hand gable projects, with squared 5-light bay window to ground floor. Sash windows with small panes in upper lights throughout. Gablet over upper window to right of doorway. Enriched gable bressumers and barge-boards. Parallel gables in return elevation to garden, with large canted bay window to rear dining room. Tall axial brick star shaped stacks. INTERIOR: entrance hall to left of main block, with linenfold dado panelling, heavy fireplace, the mantel supported by heraldic beasts, and carrying a text in raised letters: "East and West Home is Best". Staircase with turned newels rising to a gallery lit by large window with stained-glass roundels illustrating kings and queens of England. Drawing room to right, with plaster panelled ceiling, and marble fireplace in Adam style, white with inlaid gold marble forming fluted pilasters each side, and low relief panels over. Dining room to rear with massive inglenook with overmantel with mirror, built-in benches and cupboards. Original fireplaces survive in many rooms, one with tiles illustrating biblical scenes. One bedroom has frieze painted possibly early C20, with scenes from Alice in Wonderland in a style reminiscent of Walter Crane. The house was built for the Treasure family.
