SJ8297 WATER STREET 698-1/18/428 (West side) 20/06/88 Railway viaduct linking bridge over Irwell to Liverpool Road Station (Formerly Listed as: WATER STREET (West side) Railway bridge (etc), attached viaduct, animal ramp, north of Liverpool Road)

Railway viaduct, with attached animal ramp at east end of south side, including bridge carrying railway line over Water Street to former Liverpool Road Station. 1830 with bridge rebuilt 1905. Brick viaduct, iron bridge. Viaduct has arcade of segmental arches (that at the west end with springing built into stone abutment of bridge over river); animal ramp attached at right-angles, also of brick with parapets and cobbled deck. Iron-girder bridge over street. Retaining wall to Water Street with monumental banding. Although re-built, forms integral element of railway structures associated with Liverpool Road Station, the first passenger railway station in the world, linking it to the bridge over the river Irwell.
