Offices and shops. 1876. By Fothergill Watson for the Nottingham Daily Express. Raised and extended 1899 by Watson Fothergill. Restoration and additions, 1983. Ashlar, with polychrome ashlar and red brick dressings and gabled and hipped plain tile roofs. 2 stylised ashlar ridge stacks. Gothic Revival style. Plinth, string courses, pentice roof below attics. Corner block, 3 storeys plus attics; 6 window range. Reglazed windows with stone mullions and tracery. At the left corner, a round entrance tower, 4 stages, with a slated conical spire and hipped lucarnes. Circular porch with round-arched double entrance and sidelights, with round piers and crocket capitals. Wrought-iron gates and screens. Over the entrance, portrait busts of Liberal leaders. Above, a pierced balustrade on brackets, and a 2-light window. Above again, a blind arcade with small windows. To left, a plain block, 2 windows. Street front has to left 2 shouldered doorways altered to windows. To their right, a round-arched doorway under a gable, flanked to left by an original segment-arched opening and to right by 3 similar openings, all with late C20 shopfronts. Above, to left, a canted oriel window, 4 sashes, then 5 round-arched windows, 2 sashes, with central shafts. Above again, 3 pointed arched windows, then a recess with 3 triple flat-headed windows, then two 2-light pointed arched windows. Attics have to left a coped gable with a round-arched 3-light window with tracery, and to right, 2 similar gables and windows. Between them, 3 large hipped through-eaves dormers.
