GV II
Lodge to Weetwood Hall (qv), now University of Leeds premises. Late C19. By WH Thorp. For Alfred Cooke. Ashlar, slate roof. 2 storeys, square plan. Tudor-arched doorway with stepped hoodmould, single- and 3-light mullion and transom windows, the ground-floor window a wide canted bay with moulded corner detail above. Moulded string courses, eaves, gabled upper storey with kneelers and gable copings. Tall moulded external stack on left return and to rear. INTERIOR: not inspected. Alterations in progress at time of survey. Alf Cooke was the owner of the Hunslet Printing Works (qv) and lived at Weetwood Hall, Otley Road (qv) in the later C19. There is another Lodge to Weetwood Hall on Otley Road (qv). (K Powell, Victorian Society: Easter Tuesday Walk in Weetwood: 1984-; Kelly's Directory of Leeds: 1888-).
