SE3036 ST MARTIN'S VIEW, Potternewton 714-1/19/1036 (South side) St Martin's Institute

GV II

Church institute. 1902. By Percy Robinson. Coursed rock-faced gritstone, ashlar details, slate roof. 2 storeys, 7 bays. Gothic Revival style. A large gabled building with single-storey 3-arched entrance porch with crenellated parapet. Traceried hall window with hoodmould flanked by probably stair turrets with paired lights and stepped parapet with pyramid roofs. Left and right returns: large 3-light segmental-arched windows with transoms and mullions and leaded panes above 3-light lower ground-floor windows. Service rooms to rear. INTERIOR: not inspected but reputed to contain a ballroom with stage and balcony, and 2 lower halls.
