SE3137SE GLEDHOW LANE, Gledhow 714-1/57/698 (South side) Stables and Constable Cottage at Gledhow Hall, with link wall and gate piers
GV II
Bothey, stables and lodge, with wall and gateway at S end linking to Gledhow Hall (qv). Mid C19, later C19 alterations, by Chorley and Connon, architects at the Hall. Coursed squared gritstone and ashlar, stone slate hipped roof, timber and lead clock turret with cupola. 2 storeys, central wide doorway with quoined jambs, later doors, loading door above, 2 six-panel doors with overlights to left, sash with glazing bars between, plain sills and lintels. Wide stable door and small window far right. Side-sliding sashes to upper floor. A tall clock turret at S end of ridge has ribbed base, round clock faces in moulded surrounds, pediments above, open cupola above has ogee dome and tall ornate finial. Taller later cottage attached at N end. Curved ashlar wall with flat moulded coping links to S end and pair of monolithic stone gate piers with banded pyramid capstones, panelled wooden 2-leaf gates, wall continues to Gledhow Hall service rooms. INTERIOR: not inspected.
