GV II
Railings, gates and piers. Mid/late C19 and C20. Original railings by William Walker. Ashlar, concrete, cast-iron and steel. At the south side there are 2 ashlar corner piers of square plan, linked by iron railings with cast finials, set into concrete copings. The other sides have flat steel railings with twisted pointed tops. There are 5 cast-iron gates with gateposts: one towards the southern end of the straight east side, one at each end of the straight north-east side, one near the centre of the curved west side, and one near its southern end. (York Historian: Malden J: The Walker Ironfoundry, York, c.1825-1923: York: 1976-: 51).
