SD3201 BACK LANE, Little Crosby 778-1/5/153 Cottage linked to S end of cart shed to W of Crosby Hall Educational Trust

Probable coach-house converted as cottage, with attached screen wall. Probably early to mid C19, altered in later C19. Coursed squared sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings, infill of random rubble,sides and rear of random rubble, brick chimney and slate roof. Small rectangular plan. A gabled single-storey facade which has a segmental-arched former coach entrance with rusticated ashlar surround including a keystone, now filled with rubble masonry with a doorway to the left and a small square 6-pane window to the right. Brick chimney to right-hand side wall. Ramped down from the front right corner is a rubble screen wall with rounded coping, which links it to the former cart-shed (qv). INTERIOR: not inspected. Forms group with buildings of Crosby Hall Educational Trust (qv) which it faces to the east.
