Details

SS 62 NW CHITTLEHAMPTON HIGH STREET (south side) Chittlehampton 1/148 Wyndhams - GV II House. Probably late C18 with late C19 extension to front right end. Original range in pointed stone rubble and possibly some cob. Extension unrendered to front gable end with brick dressings. Slate roof with gable ends. Rear rendered stack to fireplace across rear right-hand angle of left-hand principal room. Plan: original range of 2 room plan with principal heated room to right of through- passage at left end which has chamber over, with smaller unheated room at right end. In late C19 a gable ended wing was added to front right end creating overall L-shape plan. In C20 the passage doorway was blocked and an entrance made into front wing on its inner face. 2 storeys. Original range has 2 window range of C19 2-light casements, 6 panes per light above plank door to passage to left of C19 3-light window, 6 panes per light. Gable end of front wing has two 2-light casements, 4 panes per light on each floor with cambered brick lintels. Late C19 single storey gable-ended extension with brick stack and corrugated iron roof to rear right-hand room. Interior: largely altered in C20. Roof not inspected.
