MARKET PLACE 1. 1594 (Cheese Market) No 25 (Midland Bank) [Formerly listed as Nos 19 to 25 (odd)] SU 1430 SW 1/312 28.2.52. II GV 2. Corner site with Minster Street qv. Late C18. 3 storeys red brick with moulded stone cornice. The ground floor has been altered sympathetically for Bank with rusticated stone skin with Doric pilasters and entablature across front, the windows set in recesses with flanking columns in antis. 4 windows to Minster Street on upper floors, recessed sashes, glazing bars intact, on 1st floor breaking through deep stone facing over ground floor cornice. Return front to Cheese Market similar ground floor treatment. 6 bays. 2 to left with windows as on Minster Street. The 4 right hard bays incorporate former separate house also of red brick, bracketed cornice and parapet. 4 windows 2nd floor, 3 on 1st floor and one blocked, flush architrave framed sashes, glazing bars intact. The entrance is contemporary with alteration to Bank, set across corner and recessed under it with elaborate scroll carved brackets supporting corner.
Nos 25 to 32 (consec) and the Market Hall form a group.
