No.1 Davids Land Cottages, Bramble Cottage
II
House, formerly 2 cottages. C17, modernised and extended circa 1970. Plastered
cob on rubble footings; cob stack topped with C18 brick; interlocking concrete
tile roof (formerly thatch).
Originally a pair of contemporary 1-room plan cottages facing south. Central
axial stack serving back-to-back fireplaces and set to rear of the ridge.
Outshots to rear may be original. C20 extension to right (east) end. No.2 Davids
Land Cottages (q.v.) adjoining to right. 2 storeys. Regular 4-window front
comprising a variety of C20 casements, most with glazing bars. Ground floor left
window blocks former door to left cottage. At right end original doorway behind
C20 porch with monopitch and corrugated plastic roof. Single storey C20 extension
to right projects forward slightly with 1 front window. Mainroof and extension
roof are gable-ended. Chimney shaft of C18 hand-made brick.
Interior: both rooms have plain soffit-chamfered crossbeams and both oak lintels
to fireplaces are hidden. Each former cottage has C17 A-frame roof with pegged
lap-jointed collar and shaped halvings.
