Details
WEST FERRY ROAD E14 1. Isle of Dogs 4431 No 262 Burrell's Wharf office block to south-east TQ 3778 30/1 of Main Gate and works range to south with chimney stack II GV
2. C1860 office block to former iron works (now Burrell's Colours). A tall 3 storey stock brick block with a domestic elevation arranged as a pair of 2 bay house fronts and with a third one very slightly recessed to left. Upper floors have glazing bar sash windows with flat gauged arches and stucco sills. Parapet and coping with brick strings. Three windows, one now a doorway, on ground floor and 3 doorways with plain stucco surrounds and cornice hoods on elongated console-brackets. Four bay side elevation to entrance yard with parapet returned. A short section of parapeted wall projects to flank gateway and contains a round arched doorway for pedestrian access, large brick keystone and imposts to arch. A wing extends to rear on 2 storeys with parapet. Segmental and round arched windows, succeeded to south by a 2 storey works range with segmental arched windows. Abutting the west side of this range is a lofty octagonal tapering chimney stack on conical pedestal base, probably introduced when the premises became a paint manufactory. An integral part of one of the few surviving iron foundries once so important for shipbuilding in the Docklands. See also description for Burrell's wharf West Ferry Road (qv)
