SJ 98 NE MARPLE LIME KILN LANE (south side) Marple 7/92 Nos. 5 and 7 -
G.V. II
Canal company Manager's house and boat builder's/ apprentice's house, now 2 houses. Both early C19. Dressed stone with C20 tile roof. No. 7 has a double-depth central- staircase plan with 2 storeys (plus attic) and a lean-to against the right gable. The 3-bay elevation has a central door with semi-circular radial fanlight. 2 ground floor and 3 first floor windows with square-cut surrounds, 16-pane sashes and a first floor sill band. The rear is similar but the flat-headed doorway has been blocked. 2 ridge chimney stacks and a semi-circular headed gable attic light. No. 5 has its entrance on the opposite side, 2 ground floor window openings (one formerly a door) and 3 first floor (one blind) with continuous sill band and rock-faced jamb stones. The eaves have square stone brackets and there is a gable stack. Offices are attached to the rear in brick and the workshop to the right (which has been considerably reduced in size) was a boat shed/workshop.
