Details

GOTHAM MOOR LANE SK 53 SW (south side) 2/27 The Manor (formerly listed as No 2 The Manor) 13.10.66 G.V. II House. C16, in the main early C17 re-using some earlier materials and probably incorporating an earlier build, altered mid C19 and early C20. Red brick with blue brick chequering, some rubble. Plain tile roof, 2 lateral red brick stacks each with 2 diagonally set shafts. 2 diagonally set red brick stacks to the rear and 2 external lateral, possibly C16, rubble stacks, the right on chamfered plinth now with 2 C20 diagonally set shafts, the left originally larger and stepped to 3 sides, now reduced in size and with 3 diagonally set C20 shafts. 2 storeys plus garret, 3 gabled bays with C20 scalloped bargeboards. The single left bay now with single C20 casement flanked by single smaller similar casements. The single central bay with red brick and plain tile C19 porch with decorative C19 bargeboard, arched entrance, the side walls each with single arched fixed lights. Inner doorway with C20 door. To the right is a single tripartite C20 casement. In the single right bay is a single similar casement. Above are 5 similar casements and each gable apex has a single small casement. All casements with glazing bars and C20 dripmoulds. Tothe left is a red brick and plain tile 2 storey, single bay C20 extension with single C20 quadripartite casement and dripmould on the ground floor, further left is a single storey, single bay, red brick range with single similar small casement and dripmould. The garden front also with 3 gabled bays, that of the single central bay being smaller, has a single tripartite cross glazing bar stair light. Interior. Roof with many cusped wind braces and re-used purlins and tie beams. Doorway in attic with single decoratively carved jamb. Attic with some low plastered partitions creating enclosures probably used for storing grain, etc. Remainder of house heavily timbered throughout with stud partitions and re-used C16 chamfered and moulded beams. Room to west reputed to have large C16 four centred moulded arched stone fireplace, now plastered over.
