Details
ST4817 STOKE SUB HAMDON CP EAST STOKE (South side) 7/282 Hamhill House - - II Detached house. Later C19 facade to a C18 building. Ham stone ashlar, with coursed rubble to sides and rear, one brick patch on south side; hipped Welsh slate roof; stone chimney stacks. 'L'-plan; 2 storeys, 3-bay east elevation. Plinth, eaves course to parts; sash windows in plain openings, 16-pane above, but below later 3-light composite sashes without glazing bars; to upper bay 2 a simple square oriel window over the central porch, which is open and has 2 pairs of fluted Doric columns and plain entablature framing a part glazed door with rectangular fanlight over. Single-storey angled bay window with hipped roof on south side. North elevation has 3 bays of architraved windows, bay 1 blind, and to lower bay 2 a keystoned semi-circular arch, formerly a doorway, otherwise 12-pane sash windows; then a garage lean-to, in the west wall of which is a blocked segmental-arched opening with beaded ashlar surround. In main west wall of house a pointed-arched stair window with a Y-traceried 16-pane sash, and to right of this a 3-light chamfer-mullioned window in wave-mould recess; to right of this a small projection with 16-pane sash windows. Interior not seen. Property remained with the Duchy of Cornwall until the mid C20.
