GV II

Terrace of workers houses.Dated 1869,with C20 alterations and additions.Built by the Mason family,owners of the Oxford Mills,for mill workers families.Red brick, laid to Flemish bond,with ashlar sandstone dressings,coped gables and a Welsh slate roof covering. Linear plan,1:5:4:5:1 house bays, each house of two window bays.North-west elevation;two storey range except for gabled end houses,two centre houses beneath pediment,and to each side houses with gablets,all of which have attics.With the exception of the end houses, which have sidewall entries the houses have coupled doorways with shouldered jambs and shallow moulded lintols. 4-panel doors with overlights,some doors now C20 half glazed replacements.Single ground floor sash window,2over2 panes,beneath shallow lintol set into lintol band.Two first floor windows per house,with semi-circular arched heads and cill band above dentil course.Four centre houses each have a small 4 pane sash attic window which interrupts the dentilled eaves band,the two outer ones with shallow gabled dormers,the inner pair beneath a pediment,the apex of which is an ashlar plaque beneath a bracked hood,and inscribed 'H.M. 1869'.Rear elevation now altered,withC20 metal walway to first floor.
