GV II
House. Circa 1800. Red brick. Hipped grey slate roof. Right and left chimney
stacks. 2 storeys and basements. The house of 3 bays with additional right
bay. 4 window range of small paned vertically sliding sashes, gauged brick
arches to left bays, segmental head to ground floor right. Step approach to 4
panel 2 light door, fluted surround, fret and patera to frieze, flat canopy,
simple door to right. Rear wall with ornate stone brackets which at one time
supported a vinery. The property was part of the Norman family estate and was
owned by Canon Norman. The Earl of Oxford used it as a collateral to raise a
mortgate circa 1820. An attached vinery to the south of the property has
recently been demolished, it was one of several and the C19 owner boasted he
could have grapes every day of the year.
