II

Cottage, formerly a tollhouse. Circa 1833, extended later C19. Painted brick. Clay plain tile roof with gabled ends and toothed corbelled brick eaves. Large brick stacks at gable ends. PLAN: 2-room plan with gable-end stacks and central lobby entrance, from which rises a straight staircase between the two rooms. Small 1-room plan wing built at rear later in C19. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 2-window east front. The ground and first floor windows on the left are 2-light iron casements with lozenge-shaped panes; right-hand ground floor wooden 2-light casement, blind above. Central doorway with C20 plank door and gabled brick porch pointed arch. At rear, small single-storey wing with outshut on left and C20 glazed lean-to on right. INTERIOR not inspected, but said to have some original fireplaces. SOURCE: Hampshire Industrial Archaeology, A Guide; page 25.
