5/19 The Doric Temple
GV II
Garden seat, c1800, ashlar, Greek Doric temple-fronted with 4 columns, entablature and pediment, prostyle. Ashlar-lined within, brick rear wall. The temple, now a key element in the Bowood landscape, was only moved to the lakeside in 1864 from the pleasure grounds by the house. (Country Life, 7.9.1972)
