STOKE CANON SX 99 NW STOKE CANON CROSSING BOX
3/73 II Signal box. Circa 1874 by Saxby and Farmer for the Bristol and Exeter Railway. Brick,
timber framed slate roof. Rectangular box with longer side facing the track. Two
storeys. The ground floor is red brick with three small segmental headed windows facing
the track. The upper floor is timber framed and glazed on three sides. The track
side has sliding windows of three vertical panes with central mullion, four horizontal
strip lights above. Bracketed cornice, hipped roof with central vent. Open wooden
stair on north side with later porch. Interior has an interlocking frame of Saxby
and Farmer type 4. The last surviving Bristol and Exeter Signal Box.
