Barn immediately west of No 46
II
Barn and attached cartshed. C18. Tall stone rubble plinth with weatherboarded timber-frame above. Thatched roof with half-hipped gable ends. PLAN: 3-bay barn with opposing cart entrances to central threshing bay and with 1-bay cart-shed at right [north east] end with later external stairs on gable end to loft above. EXTERIOR: Central cart entrances at front and rear with plank double doors. On right [NE] an open-fronted cart-shed with a slightly lower thatched roof and stone stairs on gable end to loft door in weatherboarded gable. INTERIOR: The wall framing above the tall plinthhas slightly jowled posts, studs and tension-braces. Curved braces to renewed tie-beams and with queen-struts to collars. Two tiers of tenoned [butt] purlins and common rafter couples [renewed at rear over centre bay]. Cart-shed has partly cobbled floor, large roughly hewn axial beam, large joists and 2-bay loft roof complete with collar truss, two tiers of tenoned purlins and common rafter couples without a ridgepiece.
