COLEBROOKE COLEFORD SS 70 SE 3/113 Corner Cottage 26.8.65

GV II

Cottage possibly 2 cottages originally. Probably C17 with C19 alterations. Plastered cob on rubble footings; probably cob stacks topped with C19 brick; thatch roof. 2-room plan cottage on corner site with main front facing north-west and comprising a front and rear room. Front room has stack in left end wall shared with adjoining Pennycott (q.v.) and rear room has end stack in party wall with Cove Cottage (q.v.). 2 storeys. Main front has central C19 6-panel door with panelled reveals which is flanked by contemporary 16-pane hornless sashes with another at first floor level over the doorway. Front is flanked by upper remains of panelled pilasters. Roof is continuous with adjoining Pennycott to left and is hipped to right. Right side has 2-window front of similar 16-pane sashes although the ground floor left sash is a horned replacement. Roof is gable-ended to right on this side. Interior not inspected but C17 features might be expected since Corner Cottage appears to be part of a row of contemporary cottages which also includes Pennycott (q.v.) and Homeleigh (q.v.) Coleford is a remarkably unspoilt and picturesque hamlet.
