Details
HORSHAM COLTSTAPLE LANE TQ 12 NE 12/403 Little Coltstaple Farm II House, formerly farmhouse and previously manor-house. A manor house on this site is mentioned in 1397 and the existing building is of this date or soon after, an open hall with crosswing, with early C17 inserted floor refronted in C18 and with large late C20 wing to north west. Timber framed with frame exposed on 1st floor with curved door braces and late C18 diaper bond brick ground floor. Part of south east front weatherboarded to 1st floor and south west front is tile hung to 1st floor. Tiled roof with 2 brick chimneystacks including external one to south east with stone base. 2 storeys 3 windows. C20 wooden casements. Interior features include C17 newel post and some panelling, a roll moulded dais beam, open fireplace, early C17 inserted ceiling with chamfered spine beam with lambs tongue stop, plank doors, jowled posts and crown post roof with head and foot braces and collar beam. This building is probably mentioned in a will of 1574 as Coltstaple House as having "2 rooms below stares other necessary rooms and 2 rooms above stares" and is also the subject of an inventory of 1662.
