FEATHERSTONE WAKEFIELD ROAD SE 41 NW (south side, off) 5/13 Huntwick Lodge and 13.3.64 attached gate arch and screen walls. II

Lodge to Nostell Priory, now house, and attached gate arch and screen walls. Lodge dated 1655 on lintel of door, with C19 addition, gate arch and screen wall probably C18. Sandstone ashlar, stone slate roof. The Lodge, on west side of drive, of rectangular plan formed by 2 square single units of different builds, all 2 storeys and each element cross-gabled; east front to drive, one bay, has a chamfered Tudor-arched doorway with raised lettering on lintel "R.T 1655", a hoodmould above the door (with triple stepped moulding), a blind or blocked window at 1st floor, and a straight dripmould 2 courses above this (with similar moulding); the north and south sides each have one 2-light mullioned window on each floor, the lower with hoodmoulds and the upper with straight dripmoulds 2 courses above. The gables of all sides have moulded coping. On the south side there is a chimney at the junction with the addition, which is in matching style and has another chimney at the corner. Gate arch, attached to south east corner of lodge, of 2-storey height, has imposts to an elliptical-headed arch, rectangular piers, the south sides of which each have a coved niche, and a moulded cornice to the whole; on top of each pier the sculpted figure of a hound couchant. Half- height wooden double doors with ornamental strap hinges. Continued eastwards from the gateway, a lower screen wall approx. 10 metres long, with a Tudor- arched doorway at the nearer end; and continued westwards from the lodge a garden wall approx 15 metres long, with weathered coping, terminating at a square pier.
