STEEPLE ASHTON HIGH STREET ST 9056 (west side) 13/246 No 16 (The Old Farmhouse) GV II
Farmhouse, now detached house. C17, rebuilt late C18. Rubble stone, ashlar front, stone slate 2-span roof with axial brick stack to south range. Gable end to road, former baffle entry from left return. Two-storey, 3-window front. Six-panelled door with moulded architrave and flat stone hood on brackets to right of centre, 2-light recessed hollow-chamfered mullioned casement to left. Lintel string course, blind mullioned casement to centre with 2-light either side. Left return, former entrance front, has blocked central doorway, 2-light mullioned casement to right and three to first floor. Attached to right return is single-storey former farmbuilding, now kitchen and garage. Rear has C20 casements, glazed doors, C20 extensions and former bakehouse to right. Interior has chamfered beams with ogee stops, blocked open fireplace with chamfered lintel on brick jambs. C18 six-panelled doors and elliptical archway to foot of winding stairs. Formerly known as Ball's Farmhouse.
